A Short Guide to Summer Fabrics

A Short Guide to Summer Fabrics

When things heat up, it pays to know which fabrics are the best to turn to that will help you feel cool all summer long.

The next time you’re out to buy some summer wear, check out this short guide on summer fabrics before you decide to buy:

Option #1: Linen

Everyone loves linen sheets, but it’s also one of the most popular summer fabrics. When you see a linen shirt, you probably envision islands, beaches, and vacationers walking down the street.

Thanks to how it’s made (from flax), linen is incredibly breathable and has natural moisture-wicking properties. These elements combine to make a light, crisply textured fabric that makes it easy to stay cool in the warmer months of the year.

Option #2: Seersucker

If you’re looking for the ideal fabric that will keep you cool and help you stay fashionable, seersucker is the one for you. It will keep you cool on the hottest days summer has to throw that you.

This fabric is made with a very specific weave that makes it ultra-breathable. This added airflow means more moisture wicking than traditional cotton, and the unique texture will help you stand out from the crowd.

Option #3: Light Cotton

Believe it or not, there are a wide variety of cotton weights that help make it a feasible summer favorite. Fabrics are measured by a unit called grams per square meter, or GSM. Light cotton fabrics can have a GSM of 30-150, similar to linen.

Compared to heavier cotton (between 150 to 350), lighter cotton will allow more airflow and help keep you cool. And since you can print designs or add a fashionable chest pocket, these shirts will help you show off your style as well.

Option #4: Wool

The same principle with GSM applies to wool as well — lighter wool fabrics will act similar to light cotton. They’ll have looser weaves too, which means you won’t be feeling like you’ve donned a heavy flannel shirt. You’ll have a breathable, lightweight fabric that lets you express yourself without sweat.
