5 Ways to Improve Your Laundry Routine

Ways to Improve Your Laundry Routine

Most people do not love doing laundry. It is often considered a chore that must be done – but it is not generally an enjoyable one. That being said, there are ways you can improve your laundry routine to make it more efficient, better for your clothes, and easier to manage.

#1: Schedule When You Will Do Your Laundry

It can be easy to get off track if you do not schedule a time to do laundry. Then, before you know it, you end up running out of clean socks. If you have a family, it can be hard to catch up once you’ve gotten behind on laundry. To avoid this, you should schedule your laundry and hold yourself to it, just like any other appointment. If you do need to move it, you should reschedule it for a specific time and day. Don’t let your laundry get out of hand.

If you do laundry at a laundromat, think about what else you can accomplish while waiting for your clothes. If you freelance or can work remotely, consider whether you could work at the laundromat. If you need to meal plan and write out a grocery list, can you take time to do that while you wait?

#2: Sort Your Clothes As You Go

One of the most tedious parts of laundry day is sorting through all of the clothes. While at the laundromat, if you can find 3 washers together, you might be able to sort them out there. But if you aren’t regularly that lucky, you can speed this process up by sorting the clothing as you undress during your day-to-day.

Depending on the number of people in your home and how long you go between doing laundry, you can either use separate baskets for whites, darks, and brights, or you can buy special laundry baskets with dividers made for this purpose.

#3: Go Big

Go big or go home – right? When it comes to washing your clothing, you can save time and money when you use large-load washers. If you do your laundry at the laundromat, select the larger machines to do your laundry and save time.

#4: Stop Over Washing

Depending on the type of work you do or how much you sweat, you may not be able to incorporate this tip into your laundry routine. That being said, most clothing items can be worn more than one time before being washed. Not only are you keeping yourself from washing additional clothing every week, but you are also helping to keep your clothes in better condition. If it doesn’t smell, you didn’t sweat heavily in it, and it doesn’t have visible stains – consider wearing it again before you wash it.

#5: Use Lingerie Bags

No one wants to sort through piles of clothing trying to find missing socks, or attempt to untangle bras when they come out of the wash. Lingerie bags will help keep everything together, protect your delicates, and help prevent your socks from getting lost. You can keep your lingerie bag near your hamper and put your socks and delicates in throughout the week. Then put the bag in the washer on the delicates cycle.

By incorporating these five tips into your laundry routine, you can simplify the process and increase the efficiency of doing your laundry. Additionally, you can reduce the amount of laundry you need to do, and keep your clothing in better condition.
